Everything Extgroups does

One popup to find and switch any extension, groups you define plus four it works out itself, and a way back from every group action.

Groups you define

Make as many as you like, put an extension in as many as it belongs to, and see at a glance whether each group is on, off or partly on.

Free tier
  • A group's on/off state is read from Chrome every time, never stored — it cannot drift from what is really on
  • Kept in Chrome's own sync storage, one group per entry, so a big group cannot crowd out the others
  • Rename, reorder and delete in the manage page; tick extensions in and out

Turn on, turn off, only this group — and undo

Three actions per group, and every one of them lands on an undo list before it runs.

Free tier
  • Only this group: the group on, every other extension off — ready for a clean session
  • Locked extensions are left exactly as they are by every group action
  • Undo brings back the state before any of your last ten group actions

Four groups it works out itself

Groups nobody has to build, recomputed every time the popup opens.

Free tier
  • Dev: every unpacked developer build
  • Off: everything switched off, with one action to turn it all back on
  • Needs attention: waiting for your approval of new permissions, or kept off by Chrome
  • All sites: extensions that can read and change every website you visit

Site rules

Open a site, and a group turns on; close the last tab on it, and the group goes back to how it was.

Free tier
  • Follows whether any tab on the site is open — not which tab has focus — so switching tabs never restarts your extensions
  • Turns off only what the rule itself turned on; anything you had on before stays on
  • Reloads the page that set it off, so the extensions it just switched on load into it (you can turn that off)
  • Needs to see the addresses of your open tabs — asked for only when you make your first rule, handed back when you delete your last

For people who build extensions

The unpacked builds get their own group and a reload button that does what the one in chrome://extensions does, for all of them at once.

Free tier
  • Reload every developer build that is on, in one click, after a build
  • Code reloads; manifest changes still need Chrome's own reload, and the button says so

Extgroups isn't out yet

It isn't on the Chrome Web Store yet. Leave an address and you'll hear once — the day it is.
