Extgroups — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 24, 2026

This policy covers the Extgroups Chrome extension. The Deft Foundry account — signing in, buying, the newsletter — is covered separately by the site privacy policy. You do not need one for the library: everything this extension keeps, it keeps in your own browser. Where a feature of it does need you signed in, it is the one named under What leaves your device below.

What it collects

  • The list of extensions installed in this Chrome profile — their names, ids, icons and whether each is on — read from Chrome each time you open the extension and never saved
  • The groups you make: their names and the ids of the extensions in them
  • Which extensions you locked
  • Your site rules: which group each one turns on, and the site addresses you wrote for it
  • Only if you create a site rule: the addresses of the tabs you have open, compared with your rules on your computer as they change — never stored, never sent
  • Your last ten group actions — which extensions each one turned on or off — so they can be undone

What leaves your device

  • Your groups, your site rules and the extensions you locked, and only if Chrome sync is turned on: Chrome carries them to your other computers the way it carries your bookmarks. The extension itself sends nothing anywhere, and the list of what you have installed is never stored, so it is never synced

Who else sees it

  • None. The extension makes no network request of any kind — no analytics, no account check, no update ping of its own

The use of information described on this page complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Where it is kept, and for how long

Until you delete a group or remove the extension. Uninstalling a Chrome extension deletes its storage with it. The undo history keeps only the last ten actions.

What it can reach, and why

management
The whole product: reads the list of extensions installed in this Chrome profile, turns them on or off when you ask, and removes one when you choose Remove on it — Chrome then asks you to confirm in its own dialog, so nothing is ever removed silently. It never changes another extension's settings or site access.
storage
Keeps your groups, the extensions you locked, your site rules and the undo history. Groups, locks and rules use Chrome's own sync storage, so they follow your Chrome profile to another computer; nothing is kept anywhere else.
tabs
Optional, and only for site rules: asked for when you create your first rule, handed back when you delete your last. It lets the extension see the addresses of your open tabs, so a rule can tell when one of its sites is open. The addresses are compared with your rules on your computer and are never stored or sent anywhere.

Your choices

Removing the extension deletes everything it stored — Chrome discards an extension's storage with the extension. If you also have a Deft Foundry account, you can export or delete it from the account data page.
