Using Redkeep
Everything here is about the Redkeep extension itself. For what it collects and what leaves your browser, the privacy policy is the document; for anything not answered on this page, support is a real inbox.
Getting the first harvest going
- Sign in to RedNote in this browser as you normally would.
- Open the extension from the toolbar and press start. If no RedNote tab is open, it opens one — that is it answering your click, not acting on its own.
- Leave it. It wakes about once a minute and spends whatever the rate limit allows. You can close the panel and the tab; the browser can restart.
- Search from the side panel whenever you like. The library is usable from the first minute, not the last.
It says it is waiting
Two reasons, and the panel says which. Waiting on a tab means the timer woke up and found no RedNote page to work from — open one and it resumes on the next tick. Waiting on quota means it has spent the account's current allowance; that is the normal end of a round, not an error, and it refills at roughly a page a minute.
Neither is worth intervening in. Reloading RedNote does not reset the allowance — it is metered per account rather than per session — and asking faster does not raise it.
The number looks wrong
The count is how many posts are in the local library, which is not the same as how many the app claims you have saved. Posts deleted by their author, or made private since you saved them, are gone from the source and cannot be harvested.
If you saved things while a harvest was running, the check-for-new pass picks them up: it walks the front of the list rather than starting the whole 188 pages again.
Where each thing lives
The toolbar popup is for the two things you press often: start or pause a harvest, start or stop auto-filing, and the way into the other two surfaces.
The side panel is for finding: browse the folder tree, or type and search the whole library flat, with a folder badge on each row telling you where it sits. Clicking a result opens it in the tab you are already in, and the panel stays put.
The organiser tab is the wide surface — folder create/rename/move, filtering, selecting a batch and filing it, and the data page with backup, import, undo and reset. Those one-off operations are only there on purpose: each needs a sentence explaining what survives it, and a popup that closes mid-download would break an export anyway.
Auto-filing, and its two ceilings
A free account gets its first 200 notes filed, cumulative for the life of the account and never refreshed. Nothing expires and nothing is taken back — filing is a finite job, so an allowance that renewed would simply be free for anyone patient enough to wait.
The paid tier lifts that to a fair-use ceiling of 20,000 notes each calendar month — high enough that a personal library does not meet it — and the count resets on the 1st. Both numbers are counted on the server, because a count kept in your browser is cleared along with everything else in it.
If a run produced a tree you dislike, undo it and run it again — undo returns every note it moved and removes every folder it made, and leaves everything you did by hand alone.
Backups, and moving to another machine
The data page exports the whole library as one JSON file and imports it on another machine or after a reinstall. Cover images are not in it — they are re-fetchable, and including them would multiply the file size for bytes you already have upstream.
There is no cloud copy and no sync. That is the same decision as everything else here: no part of your library is on our servers, so none of it is ours to lose.
